At the start of the new year, another batch of giant off-the-road (OTR) tires featuring a new-generation bonding and protection technology is being loaded for shipment at Triangle Tyre’s Huasheng Plant. Departing from Qingdao Port, the shipment will arrive after a 12-day sea voyage and overland transfer at its destination - the Deo Nai Coal Mine in Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam.

Giant OTR tires are critical components for heavy equipment such as mining dump trucks and large wheel loaders. Their reliability directly affects operational efficiency and safety in mining operations. Confronted with complex and diverse working conditions, these tires exhibit clear characteristics of “application-specific differentiation and regional customization.” Different climates, mining environments, and mineral types place markedly different performance demands on giant OTR tires.

In the hot, humid, and rain-prone regions of Southeast Asia, giant OTR tires commonly face the challenges of short service life and high wear rate. Mines in Vietnam’s Quang Ninh region are predominantly open-pit lignite operations with extremely harsh conditions: summer temperatures can reach 40°C, the rainy season lasts up to six months, and humidity exceeds 80%. Under such extreme heavy loads, complex road conditions, and high-temperature, high-humidity environments, tires are more prone to aging and delamination, with abnormal scrapping rates as high as 20%. Mining sites have become a “battlefield” for tires, and the market has long sought a stronger, more durable, and more stable solution.

To address this industry bottleneck, Triangle Tyre’s R&D team devoted three years to intensive development, culminating in the comprehensive launch of its giant OTR tire bonding protection solution - EnsureX Efficient Technology. This breakthrough effectively resolves the long-standing industry challenge of adhesion failure between rubber polymers and steel cords in heavy-duty OTR tires. With this technology applied, delamination failures in the new generation of giant OTR tires are reduced by more than 95%, while tire service life is extended by over 15%.

The innovative technology - an ultra-high-performance cobalt-free formulation combined with a coordinated coated steel-cord adhesion system - is built around a high-performance cobalt-free bonding system and gradient adhesion-layer distribution technology. Through precise formulation and process design, it completely eliminates cobalt and delivers three major breakthroughs:

First, outstanding fatigue resistance. By developing an advanced bonding formulation and a flexible multi-alloy coating that generates exceptionally strong adhesion, the system perfectly accommodates the high-frequency deformation demands of giant OTR tires under heavy loads.

Second, enhanced aging resistance. Improved “dynamic toughness” and anti-aging performance at the interface ensure a “uniform and dense” bonding structure, increasing adhesion strength by more than 40% and safeguarding structural integrity throughout the tire’s entire lifecycle.

Third, long-lasting corrosion protection. Corrosion resistance is more than three times that of conventional adhesion systems, making it well suited for harsh tropical and coastal environments and significantly improving tire service life, safety, and retreadability.

At present, 49-inch and 57-inch tire series produced with this technology have successfully passed rigorous mine-site testing. Triangle Tyre’s proprietary bonding system acts like a resilient “mechanical anchor,” deeply penetrating and firmly locking onto every steel cord, enabling a tighter integration of the tire’s “skeleton” and “muscle.” This creates adhesion strength that surpasses conventional standards, greatly enhancing resistance to flex-fatigue and minimizing the root causes of delamination.

The successful application of this ultimate bonding and protection system marks another “revolution” in giant OTR tire technology. It further consolidates Triangle Tyre’s leading position in high-end tire technologies and injects new momentum into the independent innovation and high-quality development of domestically produced giant OTR tires.
